Olive quilted vest with ecru canvas pants
Why it works
The exposed sleeves are what make this different from another jacket-and-knit outfit. Grey travels from the neckline down both arms, surrounding the quilted olive panel rather than disappearing under it. Ecru pants keep that central panel distinct and make the brown boots easy to see. The vest also leaves a more open shoulder outline than a bulky coat, which suits a straight trouser leg. This is a layering composition, not a promise that a sleeveless garment will be sufficient outdoors in winter. Add weather-appropriate protection when needed. Reuse the ecru pants with the navy chore coat from W02 for a full-sleeve alternative; they provide the same light base while changing how much of the knit remains visible.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
Check the vest armholes over the knit: they should not press the sleeves into sharp bunches or expose large gaps at the sides. A hem near the upper hip allows the pale trousers to begin cleanly. Let a small knit rib show only if it remains neat below the vest. The pants should fall over the boot shaft without catching on it. Try sitting as well as standing, since a rigid waistband and a short vest can separate unexpectedly. Adjust the trouser length before choosing a taller boot.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Use an ecru knit to create one pale base underneath the olive vest, with brown boots keeping the bottom grounded.
- Replace the vest with a navy chore coat while retaining the grey knit and ecru pants for a more enclosed silhouette.
- Reuse the quilted vest over a blue Oxford with dark jeans and derbies for a sharper collar and darker lower half.
