Olive field jacket with an ecru knit
Why it works
The field jacket already brings several horizontal lines through its pockets and front fastening. An unpatterned ecru knit gives those details a clear background without adding another grid of seams. Dark denim keeps the lower half calm, and plain black boots make a small, solid endpoint. Olive and indigo can sit close in depth, so the pale center matters more than an extra accessory. This is utility-inspired everyday dressing rather than a military reproduction: leave out matching combat accessories and let one jacket establish the reference. Reuse the knit under the brown jacket in W11 for a warmer color story. In cold weather, the look still needs layers selected for the actual temperature, wind and time spent outside.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
Button or zip the jacket before checking fit: the pockets should lie mostly flat rather than pulling outward across the chest. Leave enough room for the knit without stretching its sleeves beneath the jacket cuffs. A hip-length hem works well with a straight jean because neither piece exaggerates the middle. Keep the jeans clear of the ground and allow a modest break over the boots. If the jacket has a waist adjustment, use it gently; a sharply cinched waist changes the relaxed shape shown here.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Use a charcoal knit and black jeans for a darker interpretation, keeping olive as the only distinct color.
- Replace the field jacket with the tan chore jacket from W01 to reuse the knit, jeans and boots with fewer pockets.
- Switch to brown straight trousers and derbies for an evening version; keep the jacket as an outer layer.
