Brown leather-look jacket with washed grey denim

4 piecesBalanced LayersTransitional

Why it works

The jacket and jeans contribute different kinds of visual wear: a smooth-looking brown outer surface meets a lighter washed-grey base. A black knit separates those surfaces at the center, and black boots bring that same depth back at the feet. The result is warmer than an all-black grunge outfit without becoming an earth-tone workwear composition. Compared with C01, the grey denim, heavier boot and black center make this more weathered and less polished. Reuse the jeans with the charcoal work shirt from W08 to see a flatter, pocket-led upper layer. Keep the rest of the outfit restrained; the brown-to-grey relationship already gives it a clear identity, and extra distressed accessories can make that relationship harder to read.

The proportions

Get the fit right.

Fit the jacket over the knit and check that the upper back moves comfortably when you reach forward. The knit should end around the waistband or upper hip rather than hanging far below the jacket. Relaxed grey jeans need enough room to fall cleanly over the boots, with the toe still visible. Keep a modest break and check that the rear hem clears the heel. If the denim is already heavily washed, avoid piling extra long layers at the waist; the surface contrast is easier to see with a clear outline.

Your wardrobe, your version

Make it yours.

  • Use black straight jeans and brown boots for a warmer, darker interpretation with less emphasis on the washed denim.
  • Swap the black crewneck for a black ribbed rollneck to change the neckline while keeping the jacket and grey jeans intact.
  • Reuse the washed grey jeans with a charcoal work shirt and black tee for a more pocket-focused outfit without the brown outer surface.
