Burgundy textured knit with black denim
Why it works
Burgundy brings a seasonal-looking color without relying on a novelty motif or conspicuous pattern. The knit texture adds enough detail that black jeans can stay plain, and brown Chelsea boots make the dark lower half a little warmer. The result is easy to understand with the optional coat removed, which matters for an indoor meal or casual gathering. Compared with C05, the crewneck removes the collar and lets surface texture carry the interest. Reuse the black jeans with the midnight overshirt from C07 for another informal evening option. If you add the charcoal coat, leave some burgundy visible through the opening. Choose any outdoor layers for actual conditions rather than assuming the sweater or Chelsea shape is sufficient for winter.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
Keep the knit roomy enough for its texture to remain visible instead of stretching flat across the chest. Its hem should sit around the upper hip, not cover most of the jeans’ rise. Straight jeans need an opening wide enough to pass over the Chelsea shaft without catching. Allow a shallow break above the boot and keep the rear hem clear of the ground. If adding the optional coat, fit it over this particular knit and check the upper arms; a textured sweater may occupy more space than a fine layer.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Use charcoal pleated trousers and black loafers for a more tailored indoor version of the burgundy knit.
- Add the optional charcoal coat and a plain dark scarf for outdoor layering, selecting their weight for the actual conditions.
- Reuse the black jeans with a black tee and midnight velvet-look overshirt when you want texture in the outer layer instead.
