Striped knit, black denim and boots
Why it works
A striped knit provides enough visual information to carry a restrained outfit. Beige and black keep its contrast more restrained than a bright multicolor stripe, while straight black denim gives the lower half a simple line. The boots continue that darker shape instead of adding another prominent color. An optional base tee can add a small collar edge; none needs to be visible in this composition. What matters is giving the knit enough space to be the main feature. This is a useful grunge starting point when you prefer texture and pattern to ripped fabric, large graphics or extra hardware. Reuse a striped sweater you already like, then simplify the pieces around it.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
Let the sweater sit comfortably at the shoulders rather than stretching it to achieve a smaller outline. Its hem should allow the waistband area to remain readable, even with a loose fit. Check that the tee underneath does not bunch through the knit. The jeans should clear the top of the boot without pulling tight at the knee. If the sweater and trousers both feel very wide, try a shorter knit hem or a straighter trouser leg before changing every piece.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Remove the visible white collar for a darker neckline.
- Use a solid textured knit when you want less pattern.
- Try washed wide-leg jeans to make the lower silhouette more relaxed.
