Short black denim jacket with grey layers

5 piecesBalanced LayersTransitional

Why it works

The short black jacket acts as a bracket around a larger grey shape. Grey appears at the hood, below the jacket hem and through the jeans, giving the layers a clear relationship even though they are all close in depth. Black shoes repeat the upper frame at the bottom. The denim jacket’s seams distinguish it from Y01’s single hoodie, while the cropped length makes this more architectural than another long overshirt outfit. An optional chain should remain secondary to that construction. Reuse the wide grey jeans with the white tee from Y07 to see how differently the same base works without the cropped layer. Keep the jacket roomy enough for the hoodie instead of forcing thick sleeves into a narrow denim cut.

The proportions

Get the fit right.

Fit the jacket over the actual hoodie and check the upper arms with elbows bent. A short body is useful, but the shoulder and sleeve still need comfortable room. Allow a modest grey hem beneath the jacket rather than a long tail reaching far down the thighs. Lay the hood outside the denim collar. Wide jeans should meet the shoes with a soft break and stay clear behind the heel. If using the optional necklace, keep it away from the hood cords so the neckline does not become tangled.

Your wardrobe, your version

Make it yours.

  • Use a grey crewneck instead of the hoodie to show more of the denim collar and reduce bulk behind the neck.
  • Choose black wide-leg jeans and boots for a darker base while keeping the grey hoodie as the single lighter center.
  • Reuse the wide grey jeans with a white tee and black low shoes for an uncluttered version with no jacket or jewelry.
