Navy blouson with grey sweatshirt and beige trousers
Why it works
A short navy blouson gives a grey sweatshirt a compact outer frame above straight beige trousers. Black ankle boots add a firmer endpoint to an otherwise quiet combination. The military-inspired reference is understated, using a short utility-like jacket shape and a restrained palette instead of decorative insignia. Beige separates the trouser leg from the navy torso, so the change in proportions stays easy to see. Keep the sweatshirt plain and let its softer neckline interrupt the jacket collar. This is a useful direction when you want the structure of an outer layer without the larger pocket volume of a field jacket or cargo trousers.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
The blouson should finish near the upper hip and allow the sweatshirt sleeves to move beneath it. If the jacket hem is gathered, check that it rests comfortably instead of pulling the whole torso into a very rounded shape. Straight beige trousers need enough room at the knee to keep their line relaxed. Set the hem with the black ankle boots, leaving some toe visible and avoiding a heavy stack behind the heel. Keep the sweatshirt hem near the jacket line so it does not create a much longer grey block beneath the compact outer layer.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Use grey straight trousers for a cooler lower half, keeping the navy jacket as the main color and the black boots as the clear endpoint.
- Replace the sweatshirt with a plain ecru tee when you want fewer layers. The short blouson and straight beige trousers still retain the compact utility-inspired balance.
- Try plain black low shoes instead of ankle boots for a lighter endpoint. Recheck the trouser length because the shorter upper will expose more of the hem break.
