Grey half-zip with straight navy track pants

4 piecesRelaxedTransitional

Why it works

The half-zip creates interest at the neck without requiring a separate jacket. Grey and navy stay familiar and quiet, while the sneaker colors bring the pale top back at ground level. Straight track pants are essential to this version: they create a continuous leg rather than the narrowed ankle of a conventional jogger. The crossbody bag adds asymmetry to otherwise plain surfaces, so a second prominent accessory is unnecessary. Compared with Y10, there is no bright outer color and no open jacket; the neckline and bag provide the detail instead. Reuse the navy track pants with the rugby from Y09 for another sportswear combination. This is an everyday styling formula, with no claim about the garments’ training or weather performance.

The proportions

Get the fit right.

Check the half-zip collar both partly open and closed; it should frame the face without pushing into the chin. Keep the hem near the hip so the trouser leg does not begin visually too low. Straight track pants need a secure waist and enough room around the thighs to fall smoothly. Let the hems lightly meet the sneakers rather than dragging behind them. Adjust the bag strap so the body sits beside the hip, not over the front waistband. Check that it does not pull the sweatshirt diagonally across the chest.

Your wardrobe, your version

Make it yours.

  • Use a grey crewneck and black tote to remove both the neck zip and diagonal strap for a simpler sportswear outline.
  • Replace the track pants with dark straight jeans while retaining the half-zip and retro sneakers for a firmer everyday base.
  • Reuse the navy track pants with a cream tee and teal track jacket when you want the outer layer to supply a clear color accent.
