Black hoodie, beige cargos

4 piecesRelaxedTransitional

Why it works

A black hoodie and beige cargos create a clear two-part outfit before any extra details are added. The dark top feels compact, while the lighter trousers reveal their seams and pockets more readily. Off-white sneakers sit close to the beige trousers, giving the lighter lower half a continuous line. An optional pale base tee can break up the neckline or waist; the pictured hoodie keeps this detail hidden. This composition is easy to build from familiar clothes because the color contrast does much of the work. Keep the hoodie plain and the pockets relatively flat, then spend your attention on length and comfort rather than searching for an exact matching set.

The proportions

Get the fit right.

Let the hoodie finish around the upper hip, close enough to the cargo waistband that the leg still reads clearly. The pants should sit securely without needing to be pulled tight by the belt. Check the pockets while sitting, as well as standing, to make sure they do not gape. Keep a soft trouser break over the sneakers and shorten excessive stacking. If the hoodie is especially long, use a less baggy cargo leg to keep the overall outline controlled.

Your wardrobe, your version

Make it yours.

  • Use black sneakers to repeat the hoodie color at the bottom.
  • Try a charcoal crewneck when you want a simpler neckline.
  • Reuse the same hoodie with blue baggy jeans for a more Y2K-led version.
