Burgundy check overshirt with black carpenter pants
Why it works
Burgundy checks supply the strongest graphic element, so the thermal and carpenter pants use smaller-scale detail. Grey gives the open shirt a readable center, while the black lower half allows the pattern to stay above the waist. The carpenter pockets distinguish this from G01’s simple jeans-and-flannel formula, and the canvas shoes make the endpoint lighter-looking than lace-up boots. Each piece has a different job: pattern, fine texture, construction and a quiet shoe. Reuse the black carpenter pants with the faded hoodie from G03 for a much softer upper shape. Avoid adding another checked accessory at first; it would repeat the loudest element instead of helping the existing layers relate. Burgundy alone gives the dark outfit sufficient color.

The proportions
Get the fit right.
Keep the overshirt roomy enough for the thermal sleeves without making the shoulders excessively dropped. A hem around the hip leaves the carpenter pockets visible and avoids a long checked block. The thermal should finish inside that line, or be lightly tucked if needed. Carpenter pants should hang straight without side pockets flaring away from the thighs. Set the hem against the low canvas shoes and leave the toe visible. If the pants collect in several folds, adjust the length before moving to heavier footwear merely to fill the space.
Your wardrobe, your version
Make it yours.
- Use a charcoal thermal and black boots for a darker, heavier version while leaving the burgundy check as the single pattern.
- Replace the overshirt with a plain burgundy work shirt when you want the carpenter construction to become more noticeable.
- Reuse the black carpenter pants with a faded hoodie and canvas shoes for a softer weekend outfit without a collar or check pattern.
